P4G Summit puts green energy and technology at the centre of 2050 plans

On May 30-31 2021, South Korea hosted the P4G summit bringing together government, business, and civil society leaders from around the world to tackle climate change and explore ways to achieve sustainable growth.

This year’s summit, under the theme “Inclusive Green Recovery Towards Carbon Neutrality,” consisted of five thematic sessions on water, food and agriculture, energy, cities and circular economy, and 10 special sessions on such issues as climate change response, inclusive green growth and sustainable development.

Highlights:

  • The P4G summit resulted in a Leaders’ Declaration on inclusive partnerships among governments, business, and civil society to achieve green recovery and carbon neutrality by 2050.
  • Discussions pointed to the key role of renewable energy and energy efficiency in a just transition and green, inclusive recovery.
  • As the Earth Negotiations Bulletin reports, this message was underscored by the Republic of Korea’s announcement that it will end financing for overseas coal-fired power plants.
